The Dordogne Valley is rich in hidden treasures, culture, history and gastronomic delights, there is so much to do and see. Our perfect location in the wonderful Périgord Noir allows our guests to explore and enjoy this wonderful region with many famous attractions and activities being just a short drive away.
Breath-taking sights are plentiful in this area; beautiful lush and verdant forests gently embrace the meandering Dordogne River alongside dramatic and stunningly beautiful cliffside villages like La Roque Gageac and Beynac-et-Cazenac, which attract visitors from all over the world, including Hollywood movie makers! Built on top of the cliff dominating the village, you’ll find the enchanting Château de Beynac where you can follow in the footsteps of Richard the Lionheart, the famous King of England, who once walked these halls, probably eyeing the Château de Castelnaud opposite (containing the French opposition to the English invaders) and contemplating his strategies!
Our area abounds with so many magnificent chateaux; pretty, picture perfect medieval bastide towns, including our own lovely Belvès as well as Monpazier, Domme, Beaumont -du-Périgord, Lalinde, Villefranche-du-Périgord. Most of these charming bastides are also accredited with being among the ‘most beautiful villages in France’ – Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. Also worth visiting is Sarlat-la-Canéda, a beautifully restored medieval town and one of the most renowned and visited in France.
SPORTING ACTIVITIES
The Dordogne Valley is the perfect location for rock climbing, paragliding, cycling, mountain biking, canoeing and kayaking, canyoning, horse riding, golf and so much more! It’s the number one destination for ramblers, with thousands of superb walks throughout the Valley.
FOOD LOVERS' PARADISE
From the vineyards of Bergerac and its famous Monbazillac to the Domme wines, walnut wine, chestnut liquor, and pastis of Sarlat, the Périgord excels in gastronomy and ‘La Belle Vie’.
A region famous the world over for its gastronomy, the Périgord flourishes in nature’s larder, bustling markets, colourful festivals and sumptuous cuisine including: foie gras, truffles (the black diamond of the Périgord), Bergerac wines, strawberries, walnuts, mushrooms, jams, cheese, honey… Here your tastebuds dance to the intoxicating variety of flavours exclusive to the Dordogne Valley.
